What is the Diabetes Health Network?

The Diabetes Health Network (DHN) helps healthcare professionals turn waiting time into an educational experience for their patients. You can start educating and communicating with your patients even before you see them.

1. DHN TV is a free educational TV system for your waiting area that brings engaging, trusted and relevant information to your patients. Now, you can start educating your patients from the moment they step inside your office through nutritional tips, exercising techniques and inspirational stories from other diabetics!

2. DHN Literature is an add-on feature for your waiting room that provides access to informational brochures from leading governmental agencies, non-profit organizations and healthcare companies. These DHN literature holders will enable your patients to learn more diabetes and how they can live a healthier life!

3. DHN Sampling is another free service that allows your patients to pick up samples of great products from your waiting room that can help them live a healthier life, such as special diabetic foot balm or healthy snacks. Your patients will think of your practice as a great resource where they not only learn new information, but also try useful new products!

Who develops the DHN programming?

The Diabetes Health Network has licensed an extensive library of content from the world’s leading sources of diabetes education. These sources are independent of the Diabetes Health Network and include organizations such as dLife, American Dietetic Association, JDRF, AnswersMedia, UCSD’s TCOYD and Alpyn. Our extensive programming library ensures you can always find the programming you’re looking for – if you can’t, just let us know and we’ll find it for you!

Can I customize the DHN program for my office?

Absolutely! Once you sign up for the Diabetes Health Network, you can choose additional features or customize the DHN TV programming to fit the needs of your own patients! You can customize the DHN TV in several different ways, including:

1. Clinic Slides: Our most popular feature is the complimentary video segment we create just for you! Custom-made Clinic Slides provide your patients with the information you want to communicate to them. You can tell them about nutrition, exercise, classes, necessary paperwork, and other information that will save you time and help your patients!

2. Content: You can choose the programming type you want from several choices to match the demographic of your patients. Each of these loops focus on a certain type of content geared towards different audiences, such as children, Hispanic, African-American.

3. The sidebar on the DHN TV is even co-branded with your name, practice information, and if you want, even photos!

How can I create my own video message?

Once you sign up for the Diabetes Health Network, you can create your own video message for free by filling our quick online Clinic Slide form. By creating a custom video message, you can communicate with your patients while they wait.

Many offices use this time to tell patients about healthy living tips, paperwork they need to do, introduce the physicians and office staff and build a patient-doctor relationship by describing the doctor’s medical background and credentials.

Why will patients want to watch the DHN?

Patients love the Diabetes Health Network! Offices around the country have told us that DHN has turned waiting time into a fun entertaining way to educate and inspire millions of people living with diabetes. Patients like the DHN because of its relevant and engaging content about the issues most important to them – how to live a healthy life with diabetes.

Some of our member clinics have called in and told us their patients love the healthy recipes and even take notes on it. One mother called us and told us that her son stopped crying after watching an inspirational diabetic Olymipic swimmer’s personal story. And others have asked us for DHN-to-go DVDs so that they can share it with their loved ones at home!

How is the DHN TV content delivered?

The DHN programming is delivered via Internet directly to your TV. The content is uploaded between 2AM and 5AM, through a secure network in compliance with HIPAA laws, and updates your system automatically at least once a month.

Before our new broadband Internet system, the DHN programming was delivered via DVDs that were mailed to medical offices every month. Now, you don’t have to worry about updating your content each month, we do it remotely for you!

Why should I trust the DHN programming?

The Diabetes Health Network was founded to inspire and motivate millions of patients living with diabetes to take control and live a healthier life – we are independently owned and operated without any influence from pharmaceutical or insurance companies.

In addition, an experienced team of endocrinologists and other healthcare professionals review all content before it is distributed on our network.

Finally, you can have complete control over the content loop in your office by choosing the programming loop that is right for your office and patients.

What are the benefits to my practice?

First, your practice will enjoy increased patient satisfaction as long, frustrating wait-times will turn into an enjoyable experience with our award-winning educational content.

Second, you can create a custom video message to communicate to your patients while they wait. You can use this time to start building the patient-doctor relationship or use it to save staff time by addressing paperwork they need to fill out and giving instructions about how to be ready for their time with the doctor.

In addition, the DHN enables you to build patient loyalty by being their source for all health-related information. With the DHN, you can make sure your patients know you care about their health.

Does the DHN cost anything to the healthcare practice?

No! The Diabetes Health Network is a completely free service for our member clinics – this includes the installation, equipment and maintenance of the entire system. You will never be asked to sign a contract with any reference to fees whatsoever.

How is the DHN funded?

Organizations and companies who recognize the importance of educating diabetics about how to live a healthy life sponsor the DHN. Typically, they are amongst the largest stakeholders in diabetes care and include nutrition and fitness companies, blood glucose meter manufacturers, diabetes advocacy organizations, insulin manufacturers, and responsible pharmaceutical firms.

Our medical advisory board, comprised of an experienced team of healthcare professionals, reviews all sponsors and our Doctor’s Choice guarantee gives you the freedom to take off any specific sponsor message from your loop at any time. You will not see any advertorials or infomercials on the network – all our content is independently-produced.

What are the requirements to get DHN TV?

Your office can qualify for a free DHN system if at least 50% of the patients you see are diabetic and average wait-times are at least 15 minutes. If you qualify, please click “Inquire” to fill out our online contact form and we will call you to answer any questions and/or to schedule your installation.

Are there any commitments?

No – if you’re not 100% satisfied with the DHN, just let us know and we will remove the system from your office within 7 business days. You will never be required to keep the system for a minimum term.

Will there be any commercials or PSAs on DHN TV?

Yes, the DHN is funded through educational sponsorships and a limited number of messages from sponsors and PSAs from healthcare organizations will be played in between content segments. With our Doctor’s Choice guarantee, you have the freedom to take any specific sponsor message off of your content loop at any time – just give us a call.

The DHN is independently owned and operated and a medical advisory board of experienced endocrinologists and healthcare professionals approves all sponsor messages.

How often will the content be updated?

The DHN TV content will be updated during the first week of each month. For the literature and sampling programs, we refill your supplies once every quarter, but we can also do it more often for you if you just give us a quick phone call and let us know once you run out!

What’s the catch?

There is no catch, really. But, once a month we do require our member clinics to let us know their system is working just fine by filling out a quick fax-back form or submitting it online. This lets us know they’re using the system and is a great way for them to give us feedback and new ideas!

Why will my patients like the DHN more than cable or other waiting-room programs?

The DHN TV is the only waiting-room network 100% dedicated to diabetes and still looks and sounds just like normal TV. We have partnered with the world’s leading sources of diabetes education and allow you to choose the content loop best suited for your patients! In addition, they get information directly from their healthcare professional through the custom-made Clinic Slides.

What kind of screen is it?

All our DHN systems feature thin, flat-panel LCD screens. Depending on the size of your practice, you will receive a 26″-32″ LCD educational TV system.

Will our office be responsible for taking care of it after installation?

No – The DHN will provide all technical and maintenance support absolutely free of charge. If your system isn’t working, just call us and we will fix it or have a new system installed within 7 business days.
